This year’s SDG Moment, held during the UN General Assembly High-level Week, focused on the theme Driving Just Transitions for SDG Acceleration, with resounding calls for urgent action amid escalating global challenges.

The event began with an impassioned appeal from Lilly Singh, the newest UN SDG Advocate, who urged world leaders to intensify their efforts as we approach 2025. Ms Singh emphasized the need for greater resource allocation, broader inclusion in decision-making, and making SDG conversations more accessible to ensure everyone can contribute to the Global Goals.

Leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, reinforced the urgency of accelerating progress. They highlighted climate action, peace, equality, and reforming the global financial architecture as critical priorities, especially as the world navigates transformative changes such as the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Co-Chairs of the SDG Advocates, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, shared strategic insights on advancing SDG progress. Prime Minister Trudeau spotlighted climate action, gender equality, and youth inclusion as pivotal accelerators, while Prime Minister Mottley stressed the indispensable role of civil society in driving progress and ensuring accountability.

The UN Office for Partnerships facilitated the participation of all SDG Advocates and supported the organization of the opening session, laying the groundwork for collective action and collaboration to achieve the Global Goals.
